Ⅰ. Air quality

In 2010, number of days with good air quality in 10 prefecture-level cities of Shaanxi exceeded 300 days, averaging 321.4 days with 89.7% rate of conformance to standards. This is a year of best conformance since records were monitored. 

Ⅱ. Public green space

By the end of 2010, green area of Xi’an City was 114.42 million square meters; 51 parks and 303 greenbelts and small plaza were built. Currently, green coverage of Xi’an is 40.42% and per capita public green area is 7.9 square meters. In February 2010, Xi’an was named as a National Garden City. By the end of 2010, green area of Baoji City was 77.11 square kilometers, green coverage was 41.93% and per capita public green area was 14.46 square meters; green area in Yulin City was 12.95 million square meters, green coverage was 36.1% and per capita public green area was 7.54 square meters.

Ⅲ. Cultural facilities

Currently, 123 museums of Shaanxi are listed in the National Museum Directory, ranking fourth nationwide. 

There are now 11 arts performing groups, 14 public libraries, 182 cultural centers, 182 cultural stations and 49 museums in Xi’an. In 2010, 569 mass cultural activities were held. There are 2 TV stations, 2 broadcasting stations and 6 broadcast television stations in Xi’an; television population coverage and broadcasting population coverage were 98.41% and 99.37% respectively. 

Ⅳ. Medical treatment and public health

In 2010, there were 8565 health organizations in Shaanxi, including 812 hospitals, 333 community service centers (stations) and 1727 health clinics. An extensive and perfect system of health education, sanitary supervision, disease control, community health service, pre-hospital medical care and health information service began to take its initial shape. Large medical establishments in Xi’an include Xijing Hospital, Tangdu Hospital and No.1 Hospital Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University. 

Ⅴ. Hotels and restaurants

In 2010, there were more than 190 star-graded hotels in Shaanxi including 7 five-star hotels and 27 four-star hotels, which received 129 million person-times of tourists both at home and abroad and generated a total tourism income of RMB76.79 billion. 

Catering industry in Xi’an can supply China’s major eight styles of cooking as well as Western-style foods in Europe and America, Japanese cuisine, Korean barbecue, southeastern flavors and Moslem foods; more than 120 Tang-style courses were developed; traditional dishes are based on Tang-style courses and modern dishes are based on Shaanxi-style courses. Eight varieties of Xi’an foods including dumpling feast and pita bread soaked in lamb soup were awarded the “Golden Tripod Prize” when competing for quality products of national catering industry; in particular, special snacks appealed to visitors from all over the world. 

Ⅵ. Recreation and shopping

There are 2 golf courses to international standard, 36 comprehensive stadiums, 380 plazas and 50 parks in Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi Province; landscaping and green land covers an area of 9188 hectares. 

General merchandise industry of Shaanxi is based on Xi’an and supported by prefecture-level cities. By market shares, Xi’an market takes up about 45%, marketplaces in prefecture-level cities occupy about 40% and marketplaces in counties, districts and towns count for about 15%. Currently, the general merchandise industry in Xi’an is more diversified and internationalized as this city becomes an international metropolis. 

Today’s commerce in Xi’an is versatile like many hundreds of flowers in bloom. Department stores include Minsheng, Kaiyuan, Century Jinwa and Parkson as well as high-end Zhongda International, Printemps and fashionable Intime, Golden Eagle, Grand Ocean and New Mart, which are distributed at Bell Tower, Xiaozhai, Hi-tech Development Zone and Economic Development Zone.

Ⅶ. Tourism

Shaanxi is one of the provinces in China enriched with tourism resources. Tourism resources are characterized by high grade, large reserve, numerous varieties, profound cultural heritage and abundance in both ground and underground cultural relics. Traveling in Shaanxi, you’ll see remains of ancient watch-tower, imperial palaces, temples, mausoleums and historic buildings, such as 72 tombs of emperors in ancient times. Rare treasures on display in museums, including bronze works in Western Zhou Dynasty, bronze chariots and horses in Qin Dynasty, stone sculptures in Han Dynasty, gold and silver wares in Tang Dynasty, chinaware in Song Dynasty and stone inscriptions in all dynasties, are glowing by the historic light of miens in past ages such as Western Zhou times and Han-Tang period. 

Ⅷ. Social services 

Currently, nearly 35% of more than 20 million employed labor force are engaged in services. There are 190,000 persons employed in 11 service industries such as handling and carrying trade, transportation, warehousing trade, computer service, software, leasing, commercial service, scientific and technological exchange and promotion, neighborhood service, sports and entertainment; monthly income of employees is RMB1888.04 yuan. The number of ten thousand social service employees is 1861.
