Hanzhong: Grand Planning in the Mountain and by the River

A. Basic Information and Development Orientation

     Hanzhong, located in the southwest of Shaanxi, with the beautiful river Han Jiang flowing across the basin, is the cradle of Han Dynasty culture and the so-called Heavenly Country ever since the ancient times.

     Covering an area of 27,200 km2, Hanzhong has a permanent resident population of 3.81 million by the end of 2013. GDP of the whole year totaled RMB 88.173 billion, fiscal revenue reached RMB 8.375 billion, and total investment in fixed assets was RMB 67.93 billion, up by 12.7%, 10.3% and 27% respectively.

     Aiming at a economically competitive, cultural and livable city, Hanzhong is cultivating the city as a national aviation industrial base, a green industrial base, a top ecological and cultural tourist destination, the modern logistics center of “West Delta” economic region and the exhibition center of Han Dynasty culture.

B. Investment Attraction and Specific Investment Environment

     In 2013, Hanzhong newly attracted and continued to implement 546 investment contracts with a total investment amount of 191.069 billion yuan, and the major projects including Hanjiang Industrial Park, Shaanxi Now-ferrous Metals Group Industrial Park, Hanzhong Xingyuan National Han Cultural Tourism and Leisure Resort and the green industry represented by the establishment of the Organic Food Base in Yangxian County are under construction.

     Hanzhong has the outstanding location advantage of being one of the national traffic hubs, connecting the economic circles of Guanzhong-Tianshui, Chengdu-Chongqing and Jianghan. It enjoys excellent ecological environment, thus reputed as “one of the regions with the best ecological environment at the same altitude globally”. Known as “China’s Treasure Bowl” and “Gene Bank of Natural Species”, it abounds in mineral resources and species of plants and animals. Hanzhong persists in streamlining administration and delegating power to the lower levels, with the service efficiency continually increasing and the business cost advantage strengthening.
